HFCWO is the logical choice for a patient in moderate health with copious retained secretions due to a primary diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis or Bronchiectasis. But the characteristics of the SmartVest® Airway Clearance System also allow other patients, who are unable to receive adequate traditional chest physical therapy, to aggressively treat their airway clearance condition.

HFCWO with the SmartVest® Airway Clearance System is very well tolerated by young, fragile, elderly, and immobile patients. Because airway clearance is often painful, inaccessible, or too time consuming to be successfully included in the daily regimen, many patients with secretion clearance problems experience repeated exacerbations, require multiple rounds of IV antibiotics and even experience frequent hospitalizations. Each event has the potential to permanently damage lung tissue. It is imperative that secretions be dealt with aggressively and consistently to maximize the long-term health of the patient and to take best advantage of antibiotic and other therapies.
